On Nov. 11, EU CNCL prolonged Turkish sanctions regime by 1 year.
EU CNCL decided to extend the sanctions regime regarding Turkey's unauthorized drilling activities in the Eastern Mediterranean by one year, until Nov. 12, 2022.
EU will remain able to impose targeted restrictive measures on those responsible for or involved in unauthorized drilling activities re hydrocarbons in Eastern Mediterranean.
Such restrictive measures include an asset freeze for listed persons and entities.
EU persons and entities are forbidden from making funds available to those listed.
Currently, two individuals are subject to sanctions, following listing in Feb. 2020.
Effectiveness
The decision will enter into force on the day following its publication in Official Journal.
Nov. 12, 2021 Official Journal
On Nov. 12, 2021, EU CNCL published dec (CFSP) 2021/1966 and reg 2021/1960 of Nov. 11 concerning restrictive measures in view of Turkey’s unauthorized drilling.
Amended decision (CFSP) 2019/1894 and regulation 2019/1890 respectively.
On the basis of a review, measures extended until Nov. 12, 2022 and entries in the list of natural and legal persons, entities or bodies set out in the annexes were updated.
Both entered into force on day following their publication in OJ, e.g. Nov. 13, 2021.
Nov. 8, 2022 Prolonged Sanctions
On Nov. 8, 2022, EU CNCL extended sanctions regime established in response to Türkiye’s unauthorized drilling activities in Eastern Mediterranean until Nov. 12, 2023.
Council Dec (CFSP) 2022/2186 amends Dec (CFSP) 2019/1894 concerning restrictive measures in view of Turkey’s unauthorized drilling activities in Eastern Mediterranean.
Decision enters into force on the day after publication in the official journal, Nov. 10.
Renewed restrictive measures imposed in view of Türkiye's unauthorized drilling activities in Eastern Mediterranean in 2019, for an additional year, until Nov. 30, 2024.
