CAL LEG passed Bill AB 3286 to modify the California consumer privacy act (CCPA) of 2018 at CAL LEG 1.81.5-1-1798, concerning monetary thresholds and grants.
Consumer Privacy
Bill requires the California Privacy Protection Agency to determine and apply the percentage change in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for the monetary thresholds.
Would also add additional funds to the Consumer Privacy Fund, to be available to offset the costs incurred by the agency in carrying out its responsibilities under the CCPA.
Would require the agency to begin administering the grant program when the amount of grant funds available after all other distributions have been made exceeds $300k.
If in a fiscal year, the funds for the grants are less than $300k, the funds will remain in the Fund for future year appropriations for making the grants until it exceeds $300k.
Written notification will exclude data subject to law enforcement exemptions/privileges
