TN LEG passed bill SB 1919 / HB 2635 requiring health benefit plan to provide coverage for 12-month refill of contraceptives, adds new section to TN INS 56-7-23.
Bill Provisions
Health benefit plan that amends, renews, or delivers coverage policy on, after Jul. 1, 2024 shall provide coverage for 12-month refill of contraceptives obtained at one time.
Unless insured requests a smaller supply, or health provider prescribes smaller supply.
Insured to receive the contraceptives on-site at the provider's office, if available.
Prescribing, dispensing, and administration practices must follow all clinical guidelines to ensure the health of the patient while maximizing access to effective contraceptives.
Plan that provides coverage for hormonal contraceptives shall not impose utilization controls or other forms of medical management limiting the supply of contraceptives.
Does not require health benefit plan to cover contraceptives provided by provider, pharmacy that does not participate in health benefit plan's provider, pharmacy network
