EU CNCL Extended Syria Sanctions


On May 26, EU CNCL extended restrictive measures relating to Syria.


  • EU CNCL issued decision to provide for extending restrictive measures set out in Dec 2013/255/CFSP until Jun. 1, 2024; and also removed 2 and amended 19 entries.
  • Follows EU CNCL May 2022 extended regime and removed 3 from list, see #139231.

  • Council Dec (CFSP) 2023/1035 of May 25, 2023 amends Dec 2013/255/CFSP, Council Implementing Reg 2023/1027 of May 25, 2023 implements Reg 36/2012, concerning restrictive measures in view of the situation in Syria, both issued in Official Journal.

  • On Jun. 16, 2023, EU CNCL issued a statement on the alignment of certain countries.
  • Candidate countries North Macedonia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ukraine, Serbia, Albania, Republic of Moldova, potential candidate Georgia, EFTA countries Iceland, Norway, Liechtenstein, members of the EEA, align with Dec 2023/1035.
