SWE PRL International Sanctions Bill

On Mar. 6, SWE PRL published new law on international sanctions.

  • SWE PRL stated international sanctions bill is submitted by Ministry for Foreign Affairs.
  • The proposals implement the EU sanctions directive into Swedish law.
  • Follows SWE PRL Jan. 2025 issued bills to be submitted from mid-Jan, see #240364.

  • Mainly proposed the penalties for violations of international sanctions are tightened.
  • Minor cases of violations of international sanctions shall be criminalized.
  • New criminal offenses in the form of sanction offense, sanction offense, serious sanction offense and repeated sanction offense shall be introduced.
  • Attempts and assistance to certain sanction offenses shall be criminalized.
  • Certain authorities shall report to the Police Authority or the Prosecution Authority if there is reason to assume that a crime under the new act has been committed.
  • Effectiveness
  • New act and other legislative changes proposed to enter into force on May 20, 2025.
