AST Tax Annual Super Reporting Reminder

Published on: Sep 11, 2026

On Sep. 7, AST Tax reminded super funds to report account balances.

  • AST Tax reminded superannuation funds to report members' account balances as of Jun. 30 for their members to AST Tax by Oct. 31, 2026 using the member account transaction service (MATS).
  • Follows AST Tax Feb. 2026 outlined notional tax contributions and Division 293 benefits, see #287337.
  • Document dated Sep. 7, 2026, received from AST Tax Sep. 8, summarized on Sep. 11.
  • Reporting Requirements
  • Super funds are required to report account balance including super accumulation account balance, notional taxed contributions, and defined benefit contributions.
  • If there's no account balance, report a zero value in the mandatory account balance field.
  • Super funds must first report each active member through the member account attribute service with matching identity details before lodging MATS data.
  • For a defined benefit member closing their account before Jun. 30 via a successor fund transfer, the transferring fund must report pro-rata notional taxed and defined benefit contributions, plus a mandatory zero Jun. 30 balance.
  • Super funds must correctly report defined benefit contributions for members with an existing Division 293 debt.
  • Corrections
  • Super funds must correct a Jun. 30 account balance within 30 days of discovering an error or omission by either cancelling the original transaction and submitting a new MATS form or overwriting the reported amounts on a new MATS lodgment.
  • Since amendments default unentered amounts to zero, funds should re-enter all originally reported figures alongside the correction to avoid adverse impacts on member calculations.
  • Effectiveness
  • Reports must be submitted by Oct. 31, 2026 through the MATS.
  • In Oct. 2026, AST Tax guided on reporting and lodgment dates for funds, #315048.
