NLD GVT issued parliamentary letter setting out potential alternatives to increasing the low rate of VAT for culture, media and sports.
Follows Dec. 18, 2024 NLD GVT said Tax Plan Package 2025 adopted, see #208821.
VAT Increase Alternatives
Adopted Tax Plan makes provision for the reduced VAT rate for culture, media and sports to be increased to 21% as of Jan. 1, 2026.
Possibilities are the removal of specific reduced rates, increasing the reduced rate, increasing the general rate, or a combination of these.
State Secretary (Taxation, Tax and Customs) has temporarily suspended transitional law for the sectors concerned, by means of a policy decree, until Jun. 30, 2025.
NLD GVT aims to amend law by Jul. 1, 2025; alternative will apply from Jan. 1, 2026.
If no alternative is chosen, the VAT increase on culture, media and sports will come into effect on Jan. 1, 2026 as it is already provided for in the law.
