IND RBI issued directive on facilitating accessibility to digital payment systems for persons with disabilities to promote more access and greater payment participation.
This directive was issued under the Payment and settlement systems act 2007.
Background
Banks should make the necessary modifications, such that all their payment systems and devices, like point-of-sale machines, can be accessed and used by the disabled.
Accessibility standards and guidelines for banking sector issued by IND GVT (Feb. 2, 2024) must be adhered to by all payment system participants (PSPs), see #183995.
Reporting Requirements
IND RBI said PSPs shall submit to the IND RBI, within one month of the date of issue of this circular, details of their systems and devices that need to be modified.
In addition, along with a time bound plan of action for achieving the same.
The action plan may be sent to the Department of Payment and Settlement Systems, of IND RBI along with details of a relevant nodal officer who could be contacted.
Effectiveness
Prescribed details above must be sent to IND RBI within 1 month, i.e. Nov. 11, 2024.
