This instrument amends the Proceeds of crime act 2002 (references to financial investigators) (England and Wales and Northern Ireland) order 2021 (StIn 2021/640).

Overview
The Economic crime and corporate transparency act 2023 inserted a new chapter into the Proceeds of crime act 2002 providing for new powers to convert cryptoassets suspected to be unlawfully obtained into fiat (regular) currency.
This instrument amends the 2021 order, which specifies who is considered an accredited financial investigator for purpose of exercising functions under POCA 2002.
2021 order as amended will specify who is considered accredited financial investigator for the purpose of exercising new powers in relation to cryptoassets investigations.
