  • This instrument amends the Proceeds of crime act 2002 (references to financial investigators) (England and Wales and Northern Ireland) order 2021 (StIn 2021/640).
  • On same day, the UK GVT issued explanatory memorandum to the 2025 Order.

  • Overview
  • The Economic crime and corporate transparency act 2023 inserted a new chapter into the Proceeds of crime act 2002 providing for new powers to convert cryptoassets suspected to be unlawfully obtained into fiat (regular) currency.
  • This instrument amends the 2021 order, which specifies who is considered an accredited financial investigator for purpose of exercising functions under POCA 2002.
  • 2021 order as amended will specify who is considered accredited financial investigator for the purpose of exercising new powers in relation to cryptoassets investigations.
  • Effectiveness
  • The order comes into force on May 27, 2025.
