Organizations reminded of independent role, resource needs of data protection officer.
The data protection officer may not be fired or punished for handling data protection tasks, and must be supported in accordance with data protection legislation.
Background for updating the instructions is the report published by the European Data Protection Board in Jan. 2024, on the status of data protection officers.
According to report, many data protection officers still face challenges in their duties.
In response to identified challenges, report provides recommendations to strengthen position of data protection officers; these have been incorporated into instructions.
