SWE GVT has decided on new instructions for the Swedish Energy Agency.
Overview
Based on the Tidö Agreement, the new instructions clarify the agency's tasks and role in implementing SWE GVT's energy policy; Swedish Energy Agency is key to meeting Sweden's need for fossil-free energy, good supply security, competitive energy prices.
The authority's tasks and role are now being clarified to strengthen its contribution to to implementing energy policy, including through new task of reporting a comprehensive analysis and assessment of the energy transition every four years.
Tidö Agreement
The Tido Agreement is a political coalition agreement formed in Sweden; it's 7 major cooperation projects include climate and energy, to shift focus from 100% renewable to 100% fossil-free energy, with major investments in nuclear power and hydropower.
SWE GVT commissioned an investigation in Jun. 2023 to review the authorities' tasks and responsibilities in the energy area; in Dec. 2023, the investigator reported on the review of the Swedish Energy Agency and submitted proposed new instructions for it.
The new instructions now decided essentially follow the investigator's proposal.
The main purpose is clarifying the authority's own tasks and role based on the energy policy goals, and demarcations from the other energy authorities.
To create better conditions for SWE GVT's governance, Swedish Energy Agency is now tasked with reporting a comprehensive analysis, assessment of energy transition every 4 years; from 2030, report will also include data for security of supply, planning goals.

The new instructions will enter into force on Aug. 1, 2025.
