Dec (CFSP) 2025/335 of Feb. 18, 2025 amending Dec 2011/101/CFSP, and Reg 2025/348 of Feb. 18, 2025 amending Reg 314/2004 concerning restrictive measures in view of the situation in Zimbabwe, were issued in the European Union Official Journal.
Published council regulation 2022/225 of Feb. 17, 2022 amending regulation 314/2004 concerning restrictive measures in view of the situation in Zimbabwe.
Provisions of regulation 314/2004 relating to suspension of restrictions were deleted.
Commission implementing regulation 2022/226 of Feb. 17, 2022 deleted entries in reg 314/2004, annex III, re Grace Mugabe, Constantine Chiwenga, Phillip Valerio Sibanda.
Decision
On Feb. 17, 2022, the Council adopted Dec (CSFP) 2022/227, amending article 10 of decision 2011/101/CFSP, removing same 3 persons from list of persons and entities.
Provisions re suspension of restrictions deleted; application extended to Feb. 20, 2023.
Effectiveness
Decision, regulations enter into force on day after publication in OJ, e.g. Feb. 19, 2022.
On Mar. 10, 2023, EU CNCL issued a statement on the alignment of certain countries.
Candidate countries North Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, Albania, Ukraine, Republic of Moldova, Bosnia and Herzegovina; EFTA countries Iceland and Liechtenstein; EEA members; Armenia; align with Dec 2023/339 and will ensure national policies conform.
Feb. 2024 Extended Sanctions Regime
On Feb. 2, 2024, EU CNCL decided to renew restrictive measures until Feb. 20, 2025.
Dec (CFSP) 2024/460 of Feb. 2, 2024 issued in Official Journal on Feb. 5 amending Dec 2011/101/CFSP concerning restrictive measures in view of the situation in Zimbabwe.
EU measures in place consist of an embargo on arms and equipment which might be used for internal repression, and targeted assets freeze against one entity, Zimbabwe Defence Industries; there has been no listed individuals since removals in Feb. 2022.
The EU will continue to follow developments in Zimbabwe, with a particular attention to the human rights situation and is ready to adapt range of its policies accordingly.
