On Aug. 8, HUD extended the time to apply for mortgage insurance.
HUD reported time extended to apply for FHA's 203(h) mortgage insurance for disaster victims programs for Maui, HWI; temporary partial waiver of 24 CFR 203.18(e)(3).
White House fact sheet on actions to support HWI homeowners rebuild after wildfires.
New change follows FHA’s third extension of foreclosure moratorium for borrowers with FHA-insured single-family mortgages in Maui, through Jan. 1, 2025, see #211020.
Partial Waiver
Extended flexibility for borrowers through the Federal Housing Administration now allows more time to finance single family home reconstruction in Maui County, HI.
Because of Maui's unique geographic location, making recovery more difficult and extent of destruction, HUD issued the waiver of application time limit for 203(h).
FHA's 203(h) program permits victims to receive up to 100% financing for rebuilding.
Additional period of eligibility per Single Family Housing Policy Handbook 4000.1.
Partial waiver only applies to Hawaii Wildfires disaster (DR-4724-HI); not to any other Presidentially-declared major disaster area (PDMDA); other requirements unchanged.
Application Deadline
Borrowers impacted by this disaster, and who are seeking a mortgage under the 203(h) program, must have an FHA case number assigned prior to August 10, 2025.
