LOU LEG enacted bill SB 129 on coverage of proton therapy for cancer patients.
Amends LOU INS 22 by adding new section on proton therapy treatment for cancer.
Bill Provisions
Requires insurers to provide coverage for proton therapy treatment for cancer patients
No health insurance issuer shall deny coverage of proton therapy, proton beam therapy for treatment as recommended by American Society for Radiation Oncology guidelines.
Coverage may be subject to annual deductibles, coinsurance, copayment provisions.
Provisions do not apply to plans providing coverage for excepted benefits, limited health benefit insurance plans, short-term policies with term of less than 12 months.
