On May 21, MCH LEG passed bill on coverage for telemedicine services
MCH LEG passed bill HB 4131 regarding health insurance coverage for health care services provided through telemedicine, bill would amend MCH INS 500.3476.
Bill Provisions
Insurer that delivers, issues, or renews health insurance policy shall not require face-to-face contact between health care professional and patient for telemedicine services.
Will not require health care professional to provide services for patient through telemedicine, unless services are contractually required per terms of a contract.
Telemedicine services must be provided by a health care professional who is licensed, registered, authorized to engage in in the state where the patient is located.
Said services are subject to terms and conditions of health insurance policy agreed on between policy holder and insurer, e.g. copayments, coinsurances, deductibles.
If a service is provided through telemedicine, insurer must provide at least same coverage for service as if it involved face-to-face contact between professional, patient
Telemedicine is use of electronic media to link patients with health care professionals.
