On Oct. 30, IND BSE introduced revised client categories in UCC.
IND BSE said it will introduce revised client categories in the unique client code (UCC) database to differentiate non-resident external (NRE) and non-resident ordinary (NRO) clients.
Changes
The existing NRI client category will be reclassified and treated as NRE; a new client category NRO will be created to facilitate classification of NRO account holders.
Trading members must update all relevant client records in the UCC database; existing NRE accounts do not require any change if UCC has already been created under NRE.
Effectiveness
These changes will be made available in the UCC module effective Nov. 22, 2025.
