On Oct. 14, 2025, JPN JBA said the Swift has announced that it planned to discontinue the use of MT messages as part of its message format from Nov. 22, 2025.
JPN JBA thus plans to revise the ISO 20022 telegram version from the current version 3 to version 8 for the foreign exchange yen clearing system on Nov. 25, 2025.
On Feb. 28, JPN CB issued a plan to update ISO 20022 standard.
JPN CB said ISO 20022 messaging standard for payment messages used by JPN CB Financial Network System (BOJ-NET) will be updated to version 8 on Nov. 25, 2025.
JPN CB Comments
The ISO 20022 messaging standard is used by the BOJ-NET for forex JPY settlements and current account transactions related to deposits of overseas institutions.
In light of the progress in preparation made by JPN CB and BOJ-NET users and the expected end of the coexistence of MT messages and ISO 20022 messages used on the Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication (Swift) network.
JPN CB will update re changes in the said schedule in a timely manner, if necessary.
